COUNSELING PHILOSOPHY
I am an eclectic therapist who is based on humanistic and Jungian analysis approaches. On top of the base of these two approaches, I like to use various techniques from different approaches, including narrative therapy , DBT, and SFBT. These techniques enable me and my clients to solve issues in a limited time, especially for people who struggle their issues for a long time to see their issues from a different perspective and to come up with new solutions. I believe that life is a journey of knowing yourself with no “wrong” path, only experiences that help you grow. Thus, I work with each client to develop an individualized plan that integrates the therapeutic approach most suitable for them. I has helped clients with concerns related to depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, self-esteem, grief and loss, and challenging life transitions.
My Role / Interpersonal Style in Therapy
Raised in the collectivistic culture of Taiwan and trained by individualistic culture in the States, I work as a counselor aims to create a safe place for individuals to adapt and thrive in different cultures. I respect all my clients and am patient at every moment. Also I strive to create a counseling relationship on an equal basis. I would see myself as a special “tour guide” in therapy; I always share the metaphor of finding treasures in a mountain as counseling sessions. I am the tour guide who will alert my client what difficulties he/ she might encounter, what we need to prepare. However, clients always know better about the way to the treasure than me. I am willing to accompany my clients when the storm of emotions comes, to guide my clients when they are lost. As the tour guide, I am flexible, sometimes with humor, and most importantly, care for all my clients genuinely.
