Trauma happens to many people,When the event occurs in an individual, it is usually a state of stress that exceeds the person can tolerance.

Trauma happens to many people, such as accidents, various violations, sexual assaults, disasters, wars, abandonment or abuse by the main caregivers, etc. We may all have a concept of the above relatively large traumatic events, but trauma also includes long-term denial and criticism in our attachment relationship, bullying during school, labeling, internet bullying and discrimination, etc., which are all traumatic events. When the event occurs in an individual, it is usually a state of stress that exceeds the person can tolerance.

When the event occurs, the person needs to obtain:

- External sense of security and support: When trauma occurs, the person will experience a great sense of shock and fear, and the body will also have a memory reaction, so it is important to provide external sense of security, such as using gentle voice and slow tone, keeping a distance from the place where the traumatic event occurred, accompanied by familiar and secure person, or the safe place in the new living environment, etc.

- Provide internal support services: When a client experiences a strong stressful event, they will have many emotions and feelings inside. If there are close people and professionals to help the client express the various emotions brought about by the event, and their emotions, feelings and thoughts can be understood and listened to, it can help the client to get through the impact of traumatic event.

As time goes by, if the various emotions and feelings we felt in traumatic events were not properly understood, listened to, accompanied, validated and transformed. These traumatic events will become traumatic memories, and our traumatic memories will still affect our current life in visibly and invisibly. IFS theory believes that our internal protection system will use various methods to keep us alive.

Some people will:

  • Become very strong and find ways to make themselves confident and accomplished.
  • May cause negative emotions, making themselves decadent or depressed
  • Isolate and avoid talking about traumatic events, and shut down various vulnerable feelings
  • Dare not express, afraid of being too prominent
  • In order to avoid contact with painful feelings, some people may use other methods to numb themselves or get comfort, such as drugs, alcohol, large amounts of food, the Internet, and other addictive behaviors

The above are tangible positive and negative effects.

But in the invisible influence, we may be in,

  • Extremely insecure in a certain state or triggered by certain emotions
  • Feeling particularly afraid, angry or other emotions about certain situations or people
  • Easily triggered by anger or other negative emotions
  • Feeling uncomfortable due to certain events reported by the media
  • Easily triggered by certain emotions in intimate or interpersonal relationships
  • Often over-critical of yourself
  • Lack of self-confidence
  • Excessive distrust of others
  • Always worry about your own performance and the evaluation of others
  • Extremely demand your own perfection
  • Unable to make commitments in intimate relationships
  • Having anxiety or physical symptoms
  • Frequent nightmares, or occasionally incomprehensible dreams

The performance of everyone's internal mechanism is different, which depends on whether we have received enough support from the external system in our growth experience.

IFS therapy is also a type of trauma therapy that can help us find out what causes these invisible influences and see the reaction of our inner system, including our protector of parts and the negative experiences. First, we will build up a trust relationship with the protection system, and let the protector feel understood and supported through sessions. When different protectors fully agree and accept, we can then in-depth internal hurting experience to find the main experience of your invisible influence.

When you hurting experiences are completely healed, you will continue to transform and move towards completeness:

  • Your symptoms will slow down a lot, or there will be no more symptoms
  • You will be able to enjoy your current life more
  • You will know how to accompany yourself and get along with yourself
  • Your negative emotions and feelings will gradually decrease, and you will like yourself more
  • Your tolerance and empathy for others will increase
  • Your perspectives on various events will be more multifaceted and mature
  • You will have enough courage and confidence to face your future
  • Your physical symptoms will improve, and your physical and mental strength will be much better
  • When you have negative feelings, emotions, and thoughts, you will know how to facing them
  • Your ability of control and decisiveness will increase
  • Your interpersonal relationships will improve a lot, and you will be able to enjoy your interpersonal and intimate relationships
  • You will be less likely to be influenced by external or internet information because you have clear judgment
  • You will no longer have terrible dreams, your sleep will gradually improve, and you will sleep through the night more and more
